A motorcyclist died Tuesday as a result of injuries sustained on Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash south of Bryan Street on Highway 31/6.

Omaha resident Jared Parker, 36, died at Creighton University Medical Center, where he had been flown after Thursday's crash in critical condition with head injuries and numerous fractures, the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash occurred at 9:04 a.m. when 45-year-old James Sedlacek, driving a 2008 Ford pickup, was exiting a private parking lot to head northbound onto Highway 31/6 and turned in front of a southbound 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Parker, the sheriff’s office said.

Preliminary investigations indicate Parker laid down his motorcycle to avoid a collision, but he still struck the pickup. Parker was wearing a helmet and was alone on the motorcycle.

Sedlacek, who lives south of Gretna, was not injured in the crash. Sedlacek was wearing a seat belt and was the lone occupant of the pickup, the sheriff’s office said.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
