Name: Kristi Mattley

School: Gretna Elementary School

What do you teach? First grade.

Experience: 16 years of teaching.

Hobbies: Sports, baking, gardening.

Who or what influenced you to become an educator? My second grade teacher was so positive and energetic. She planted seeds in me to be an educator. My mom was also involved with young children and that same passion and love was instilled in me.

How do you spend your summer vacation? Attending our children’s sporting events.

What’s the most rewarding part of being an educator? The most rewarding part of being an educator is building relationships with students and their families. I love getting to know them individually and to see them grow academically and socially. I truly enjoy having fun with students and for them to experience learning in a place that lets them feel free to try, make mistakes, laugh a lot and learn together.

If I weren’t a teacher, I’d be ... working in the foster care system or in ministry of some kind.
