Name: Jessica Block

School: Gretna High School

What do you teach? Junior resource teacher.

Experience: I am completing my ninth year of teaching.

Hobbies: I enjoy being outside with my kids, spending time with our friends and family.

Who or what influenced you to become an educator? I was a student aide for a resource teacher in high school. There was an eighth-grader that became very attached to me — started attending school regularly and completing her work with me. When I graduated, she wrote me letters. I wrote back, but she ended up dropping out. :(

How do you spend your summer vacation? Spending time outside, at the pool and with friends and family.

What’s the most rewarding part of being an educator? Watching students succeed when they thought they never would.

If I weren’t a teacher, I’d be ... CIA or FBI agent. Or, if people watching was a profession, I would enjoy that as well.
