With the Lenten season starting, many churches and organizations in the area are serving fish dinners. Below is a listing of some.

Gretna American Legion Post 216, 11690 S. 216th St., will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry every Friday through Lent. The dinner will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Cost: adults, $10; veterans, $9; children 5 to 12, $5.
St. Patrick Knights of Columbus will host a fish fry from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday and March 11 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church parish hall, 508 W. Angus St. Staley’s Catering will cook Alaskan pollack. Cost: adults, $10; kids 10 and under, $6. Takeout available.
American Legion Post 32, 230 W. Lincoln St., will host a fish fry on every Friday through Lent, including Good Friday. Fish frys will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Walleye, pollack and shrimp will be served.
St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 200 E. Sixth St., will host a fish fry every Friday through Lent. Fish frys will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Fish is available either fried or baked. Cost: adults, $9; children 6 to 14, $8; children 5 and under, $3; seniors, $8; family, $30.
St. Joseph Knights of Columbus will host a fish fry at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 102 S. Ninth St., from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 4 and March 11. Cost: adults, $9; children $4.50. Pizza and macaroni and cheese are also available for $1 each.
St. Gerald Knights of Columbus, 96th and Q streets, will host a fish fry every Friday through Lent, except Good Friday. Dinners will start at 4:30 p.m. in the Fr. Larry Dorsey Fellowship Hall. Baked cod, macaroni and cheese, baked potato or fries, cole slaw and drinks will be served. Pizza and desserts will also be available for purchase. Cost: adults, $9; children 10 and under, $6; seniors, $8; family, $30; carry-out, $9.
The Knights of Columbus Council 6192, 205 Industrial Drive, will host a fish fry every Friday through Lent. This will be a sit-down dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Menu items include baked salmon, jumbo shrimp, fried catfish fillet, fried fish fillet, baked white fish, stuffed pasta, which are offered with a baked potato or french fries. Other items include macaroni and cheese, fish sandwiches with cheese, grilled cheese and cheese pizza. Prices range from $3.75 to $11. Desserts will be provided by the Catholic American Daughters at an additional cost.
Christ the King Lutheran Church, 7308 S. 42nd St., will host fish frys on March 4 and March 11 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Meals will include cornmeal battered fish, barbecue beans, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, drinks and dessert. Cost: adults, $8; children 12 and under, $6.
St. Matthew Catholic Church, 12210 S. 36th St., will host a fish fry every Friday during Lent from 5 to 7 p.m. This is a sit-down dinner, with a variety of different items available, including baked fish, fried fish, fried shrimp, cheese pizza, macaroni and cheese, tortellini with marinara sauce, baked potato or french fries, bread and coleslaw, and desserts available for an additional charge. Cost: adults, $10; children 12 and under, $5. Selected weekly specials such as salmon and other seafood are available for $12. Discounts will be offered for large families, and carry-out is also available.
Croatian Cultural Society, 8711 S. 36th St., will host a fish fry every Friday during Lent from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Baked and fried fish, homemade macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, french fries or a baked potato, and dessert will be served. Onion rings, a full bar, meat raffles and pickle cards are also available. Cost: adults $9, senior citizens $8, grade school children $5, and free for children under 5. Credit cards will be accepted.
