Work on the Sarpy County Courthouse parking lot is expected to conclude this week, according to Deputy County Administrator Scott Bovick.

Bovick said contractors told him a Friday completion date is a realistic goal, weather permitting.

The project was spurred by safety concerns related to inattentive drivers violating painted medians, poor pedestrian access, and inefficient water drainage.

Sarpy County’s share of the cost was just over $100,000, with roughly $160,000 paid by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality. The state is assisting because of the project’s innovative stormwater provisions.

Renovation was done by Dostal’s Construction Co., of Gretna.

Bovick said the project has presented significant inconvenience to residents visiting the courthouse but he hopes the end product will meet with their approval.
