Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts on June 6 honored 24 veterans of World War II who reside at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue.

Ricketts gave certificates of appreciation to each of the veterans, whose service spanned the European and Pacific theatres.

The ceremony marked the 75th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the D-Day landings at Normandy, which Ricketts described as “the largest amphibious undertaking ever, in the history of humankind.
