The decision of the Bellevue City Council to deny the White Lotus Group 30 days to present plans for the renovation of an apartment building in southeast Bellevue was oddly uncharitable.

The vote to demolish the building is justifiable — it has been in a dilapidated state for many years — but votes to deprive people of their property should not be made without first traveling the extra mile and then a yard more.

The council did not do this, and that was odd.

What, after all, is 30 days?
