The Nebraska legislature failed to advance a bill requiring voters to show identification.

Bellevue State Sen. Carol Blood stated voter ID laws disenfranchise people. Surely she doesn't believe citizens are indolent or too ignorant to have an ID.

As a citizen of our community I must show ID to pick up a prescription, rent or buy a home or car, buy alcohol or cigarettes, apply for a fishing or hunting license, apply for public welfare assistance, open a bank account, pick up an order from a retail store, apply for a marriage license, get on an airplane, and so on and on.

I must have a driver's license with me when I exercise the privilege to drive a car.

Voting is a responsibility, and to make sure our voting system is kept honest and secure surely we can show the citizen volunteers at the polling place a piece of identification.
