I was excited to read the headline on the front page of the March 14 edition of the Bellevue Leader — “36th Street Widening Plans Released”

Could it really be true?

After numerous, studies, surveys, community meetings, plans, ideas, etc., could there finally be an actual plan to widen 36th Street in the congested area south of Highway 370? No, not a chance.

As I read the story under the headline, I realized the widening will take place north of Highway 370.

Once again, those who live in the well-established neighborhoods along 36th Street south of Highway 370 will continue to put up with congested intersections and long traffic lights while yet another section of Bellevue gets improved and this older section is forgotten.

Maybe someday those of us who live south of Highway 370 will finally see some relief and improvement in this much needed area of Bellevue. That $20 million project mentioned in the article has been nothing but talk for too many years.
