Name: Martha Tenski

What do you teach? Third grade at Avery Elementary School.

Experience: This is my 12th year of teaching.

Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with my husband Bryon and our two boys, Isaiah, 8, and Caleb, 2. I also am very involved in my church, Bellevue Christian Center.

Who or what influenced you to become an educator? My greatest influence to become a teacher was my grandma. She taught in Iowa for more than 30 years, part of that time in a one-room school house.

How do you spend your summer vacation? During the summer I spend time with my family and also like to work on projects around the house, painting rooms and redecorating.

What’s the most rewarding part of being an educator? The most rewarding part of teaching is watching students get excited about learning. I love finding new ways to teach all sorts of concepts and it’s neat to see a child connect to a new way of looking at something.

If I weren’t a teacher, I’d be ... I love teaching and can’t imagine doing anything else, but if I were to do a different career, I’d probably be a massage therapist. I’m sure a lot of my clients would be teachers!
