One man has died after being shot by a Bellevue police officer overnight.

Bellevue police went to a home near 30th and Sandra Streets, north of Childs Road, about 11:30 p.m. Thursday night to investigate a report of someone who was armed, 911 dispatchers said. Police said a woman called 911 and said her partner was drunk, armed and suicidal.

As officers were heading to the call, they were told that shots were fired, police said. When they arrived, officers heard shots near the home.

One officer was able to evacuate the woman from the home, police said, and shortly after that, an officer shot at the armed man.

The man was taken to Nebraska Medical Center in extremely critical condition, where he died.

No officers were injured, Bellevue police spokesman Lt. Andy Jashinske said.

Officials said they will release the man's name after notifying next of kin. The officer, whose name has not been released, has been placed on paid administrative leave.

The La Vista Police Department is investigating the shooting with help from the Douglas County Crime lab.
