The Bellevue Little Theatre has announced its 2019-20 production schedule, which is as follows:
• “Catch Me If You Can.” Sept. 13-29.
Based on the 2002 Steven Spielberg drama/comedy starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken and Martin Sheen, the musical tells the story of serial conman Frank Abagnale whose outrageous impersonations and check forging make him the target of a nationwide manhunt.
• “Our Town.” Nov. 8-24.
This Thornton Wilder classic, first produced in 1938, explores issues of love, marriage and everyday life through the experiences of the residents of the fictional small town of Grover’s Corner. Set in the period 1901-1913, the play won the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for drama and remains, more than 80 years later, a widely produced drama.
• “Murder on the Orient Express.” Jan. 17-Feb.2.
Perhaps the most famous of Agatha Christie’s whodunnits, “Murder on the Orient Express” features the Belgian detective Hercules Poirot deploying his famous “little grey cells” to solve the mystery of a murder committed on the train while he is journeying to London.
• “Big The Musical” March 13-29.
An adaptation of the 1998 film starring Tom Hanks, “Big The Musical” tells the story of Josh Baskin, a 12-year-old boy who grows up overnight after being granted a wish by a carnival machine. The sudden mismatch between his newly adult body and his pre-adolescent mind spurs awkward situations and a hunt for the machine so that he can wish himself back to normalcy.
• “Temporary Insanity.” May 1-17.
A classic farce by Des Moines-based playwright Karen Schaeffer, “Temporary Insanity” deploys all the classic elements of farce mistaken identity, confusion and plenty of action. The BLT board hopes Schaeffer will be able to visit the theater during production.
