A nod goes to the Nebraska state senators who helped derail O’Neill Sen. Tyson Larson’s measure to expand gambling. Legislative Bill 619 proposed to allow businesses with liquor licenses and non-profit organizations with special designated liquor permits to operate poker rooms. Nebraskans have repeatedly voted against more gambling. Opening hundreds of businesses to new games of chance — which is what the Attorney General’s Office has concluded poker is — would be a bad bet.
