The Saving Grace Perishable Food Rescue continues to grow. In Omaha, the program collects perishable foods once a week from 37 donors — local grocery stores, caterers, restaurants, wholesalers and others — and distributes it among 25 nonprofits that serve low-income residents. OneWorld Community Health Centers near 30th and L Streets is the first medical clinic to participate. Staff and volunteers help patients gather an assortment of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, breads and more. Their families benefit, and less food is left to toss into the landfill. A perfect match.
