Exit 56 (copy)

Interstate 29 near Exit 56 in Council Bluffs, shown here in March. Portions of I-29 north and south of the Bluffs and a long stretch of I-29 from Pacific Junction to Rock Port, Missouri, were closed because of flooding.

One of the most dramatic disruptions from the March flooding has been the closure of stretches of Interstate 29 in Iowa. Diverted traffic has greatly strained alternative routes, including U.S. Highway 75 in southeast Nebraska.

Construction crews and officials deserve great credit for their hard work as they speed up construction and aim to reopen the Interstate in at least a limited fashion by Memorial Day weekend.
