Negroni week

Campari is a major ingredient of the Italian cocktail Negroni.

It’s Negroni Week — that annual celebration of one of Italy’s favorite cocktails — and Mercury is celebrating Sunday with its third annual Negroni Throwdown competition, plus special versions of Negroni cocktails all week long.

The bar has opened its competition to any bartender in the city who thinks he or she can make the best Negroni in Omaha. (Full disclosure: I’m one of the judges.)

Guests pay $10 at the door and will be able to try every competing cocktail and get a wedge of a giant submarine sandwich.

The event runs Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mercury, 329 S. 16th St. For more information, visit facebook.com/mercuryomaha.
