Like Dante Pizzeria Napoletana, Forno will serve items prepared in a wood-fired oven.

Forno, the new restaurant from the owners of the now-closed Blackstone location of Dante, will open May 16.

Forno, which is Italian for “oven,” will focus on shared plates. Most of the items on the menu will be cooked in the wood-fired oven in the space and will include pasta, wood-roasted vegetables, bone-in meats and fish, pizza and tigelle, which are round flat breads that guests will stuff with meat, cheese and other fillings.

The all-Italian wine list will mostly be priced under $50.

Owner Nick Strawhecker said in March that the fast-casual version of Dante, which opened at 3852 Farnam St. in late 2017, didn’t perform as expected.

Strawhecker said Forno will have little in common with his other restaurant, the Dante off 168th Street and West Center Road. No dishes will overlap between the restaurants. The new restaurant will be full service.

Restaurant operations director Justin Gilmore created a new drink menu that will include negronis, spritzers and Italian spirits, and a larger, more accessible wine list. The space also will include a standing cocktail bar, which will replace Dante’s counter, where customers placed their orders. Diners also will be treated to a digestif, a free house drink, after meals.

The restaurant plans to serve brunch beginning in early June.
