Acworth, GA. Passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2015. Mr. Long was a 26-year Veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, cooking, and was exceptional on the grill. To say he had a heart of gold, is an understatement. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and make the world a better place. Spending time at the lake, camping, and refurbishing cars were a few of his favorite pass times. Though he found joy in all of these things, his greatest joy came from being a husband, father, and grandfather. Dan was an active advocate with Community Oncology Alliance and CPAN for 5 years, where he worked tirelessly to bring about positive change. He was a member of St. Claire of Assisi Catholic Missionary Church and was very rich in his faith. Mr. Long is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Mrs. Vicki Long; 4 children, Daniel "Neal" Long of Emerson, GA, Connor Gerrard Long of Acworth, Shannon Marie de Jesus (husband Anderson) of Marietta, GA, and Nicole Louise Gomez of Marietta; his mother, Dorothy Long of Greensboro, GA; 2 brothers, Lou Long of Concord, NC, and John Long of Washington, DC; a sister, Sarah Parker of Augusta, GA; 6 grandchildren, Anthony, Jasmin, Brian, Nicolas, Sally, and Araceli; and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer Trotter.
