A 14-year-old girl who died Friday after she crashed a stolen car about 4 a.m. has been identified.

The girl was Kaydance Potter, a student at Lincoln High School, Lincoln Police Capt. Ryan Dale said.

Dale confirmed her name Saturday, which was mentioned in a communique between school officials and parents of the high school. He said that the 2015 Honda Civic was stolen on April 15 but that it’s not clear how the girl came to be in possession of it.

He said the one-car wreck took place in the 5300 block of Superior Street in Lincoln. Lincoln police were notified at 4:11 a.m. Friday. She had a passenger who suffered minor injuries, he said.

Dale said that there were no drugs or alcohol in the car and that there was “no reason for us to believe she was intoxicated or anything.”
