Russell Wiltgen had 30 years in Iowa, Nebraska financial industry

Russell Wiltgen had 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, many of which were spent in Omaha before he became chief actuary at FBL Financial Group in Des Moines.

Wiltgen, 53, died Wednesday of an apparent heart attack while on a golf outing in Arizona.

In 17 years working for Mutual of Omaha, he held various roles, including vice president and chief product actuary-life. He went on to work with Ameritas, now UNIFI Companies, in Lincoln for about 10 years. At UNIFI he served as vice president of individual product management.

He joined FBL Financial Group in 2010. The holding company's primary operating subsidiary is Farm Bureau Life Insurance Co.

Wiltgen was a Sioux City, Iowa, native and University of Iowa graduate. Survivors include his wife, Annette, of Waukee, Iowa.

Services will be held Tuesday in Sioux City, at St. Michael Catholic Church.
