Don Bacon says the time has come for Donald Trump to step aside.

The Republican congressional candidate who is running against Democrat Brad Ashford in the Omaha-based congressional district says he believes Trump cannot win.

"Trump should allow a strong conservative candidate, like Mike Pence, from the GOP to win in November. His continued candidacy guarantees a Clinton victory," said Bacon.

However, Bacon stopped short of saying he could never vote for Trump. If the combative New Yorker remains on the ticket next month, Bacon says he may have no choice.

"I'm grappling with it, because I do not believe Hillary is the right person. I'm in a quandary. I hope he steps down and does the right thing," said Bacon.

Bacon joined a chorus of Republicans nationwide and in Nebraska who called for Trump to remove himself from the presidential ticket in the wake of a lewd video.

Three members of Nebraska's congressional delegation  Deb Fischer, Ben Sasse and Jeff Fortenberry  all called for Trump to step down and give the nomination to vice presidential nominee Mike Pence.

U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith of Gering was the sole GOP congressmen from Nebraska who neither condemned Trump's statement or called for his removal today.
