The Omaha Police Department’s Explorer Post 591 will be honored for its outstanding service during a ceremony later this month.

The post will receive the William H. Spurgeon Award for outstanding service to the Exploring program at the Boy Scouts of America, Mid-America Council Awards Reception. The ceremony will take place Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Westside Community Conference Center.

Post 591, which is sponsored by the Omaha Police Department, allows youths to experience law enforcement. The post is managed through OPD’s Crime Prevention Unit.

The Explorers receive training in police procedures, accident investigation, search and arrest, radio communications, criminal investigations, as well as many other areas of law enforcement.
