An Omaha police officer suffered a minor injury Wednesday when a motorist without a driver's license ran a red light and collided with his cruiser, police said.

Officer James Stokes was driving west on L Street about 1:30 p.m. when a Toyota Corolla northbound on 23rd Street ran the light and struck the cruiser's driver's side, police said, citing the account of someone who saw the collision.

Stokes was taken in another cruiser to the Nebraska Medical Center. The left side of his body was sore.

Speed and alcohol were not factors, police said.

The Corolla driver, Sandra M. Peralta, 62, was ticketed on suspicion of not having an operator's license or valid registration or having paid a wheel tax, police said.

She declined to be taken to a hospital.
