Mentoring summit Jan. 31 in Omaha

The nonprofit Midlands Mentoring Partnership is working with 12 mentoring groups and Building Bright Futures to highlight the importance of mentoring in Nebraska.

On Jan. 31, the partnership will honor National Mentoring Month by holding the 2013 Annual Summit. Workshops for mentors, mentees, professionals who work with youths and anyone interested in learning more about mentoring will feature the latest in research as well as information from experienced mentoring practitioners. David Shapiro, CEO of MENTOR, the National Mentoring Partnership, will be the keynote speaker.

The Mentor of the Year and Advocate of the Year will be honored at a special luncheon at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Omaha.

Planners to meet for Springfield Days

An organizational meeting to plan Springfield Days will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Springfield Memorial Library, 665 Main St.

Trace your roots at two workshops

The Otoe County Genealogical Society will offer a genealogical workshop series from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 29 and March 26 at the Unadilla (Neb.) Community Library.

The two sessions cost $10. Learn how to organize information, records and photos. You will be guided through websites, source locations for books, vital records, U.S. Census and land records. Wi-Fi will be available.

Preregistration is required. Register with Peggy at the library.
