GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — The Grand Island City Council will convene into a special budget meeting immediately following a 7 p.m. regular business meeting tonight.

The council will be asked to approve the creation of 13 new city positions.

Those new positions are five new police officers, two community service officers, a Metropolitan Planning Organization coordinator, a Geographic Information System coordinator for the Public Works Department, a registered land surveyor for the Public Works Department, an office coordinator for the Heartland Public Shooting Park and a civil engineer and utilities electrician, both for the Grand Island Utilities electric division.
