A 26-year-old woman died early Thursday when the car she was driving struck a tree near 77th and A Streets in east Lincoln.

Heather D. Bodfield was pronounced dead at the scene, Lincoln police said. Officers were called to area just before 1 a.m. by a passerby.

Bodfield was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt west on A Street when the car left the road and hit a tree at a high rate of speed. She wasn't wearing a seat belt, police said.
