LINCOLN — A staffer at the Nebraska State Penitentiary was treated and released from a hospital on Tuesday after being punched by an inmate.

Staff members were escorting an inmate at the prison when he struck a staff member in the face, according to a state Corrections spokeswoman.

The incident is under investigation and the findings will be turned over to the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution. The names of the employee and inmate involved were not released.
