Todd Watson, a Lincoln resident who co-owns real estate and technology businesses, announced Tuesday that he’s running against Sen. Deb Fischer for the Republican nomination.

Watson ran in 2014 as an independent against Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., and got about 1 percent of the general election vote.

Watson said he’s returning to the Republican Party after a decade to “make Republicans conservative again.” He said his platform is defending the Constitution, national security, social conservatism, fiscal control and economic growth.

“I’ve been contacted by frustrated voters for the last three years who now realize my proclamations were correct that Republicans will not uphold their core promises,” Watson said in a press release. “Health care, securing the border, spending cuts, defunding Planned Parenthood and reforming immigration were always impossible with their allegiance to Sen. (Mitch) McConnell and their large donors that back opposing policy.”
