A grenade found in a dumpster in southeast Nebraska was disposed of by Nebraska State Patrol troopers.
The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Monday after the grenade was found outside a home in the town of Talmage, said Cody Thomas, a patrol spokesman. The home was being cleaned out after the resident died, he said.
Members of the patrol’s bomb squad removed the grenade from the area and “destroyed it with a counter charge,” Thomas said.
“If you ever find a grenade or other explosive device, call the authorities immediately and do not attempt to move it,” said Lt. Dain Hicks of the patrol’s bomb squad. “These devices can be extremely dangerous and must be handled by trained experts.”
