Crews from the Metropolitan Utilities District shut down a gas line this afternoon near 90th and Fort Streets that was hit by lawn mowing equipment.

The Omaha Fire Department temporarily evacuated two small buildings as a precaution, said Tracey Christensen, MUD spokeswoman.

Christensen said the Nebraska Humane Society building was not evacuated.

All lanes of Fort Street were closed for a short time from 90th Street to Templeton Drive. The street reopened about 3 p.m.

Christensen said no MUD customers had been affected and that crews were repairing the line.
