HONEY CREEK — A mother and daughter escaped serious injury after their house went up in flames.

The fire was reported early Friday in Honey Creek.

Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker said the fire was initially reported as a garage fire, but the flames quickly spread to the house and a camper on the property.

The 31-year-old mother said she was watching television when she heard a noise, looked out the window and saw flames.

She and her 10-year-old daughter managed to escape, but they were taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
