A 32-year-old Omaha man was killed early Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash on northbound U.S. Highway 75 near Lake Street.

Omaha police said a 2015 Nissan Altima sedan was heading north on Highway 75 (North Freeway) after 1 a.m. when it struck the rear bumper of a northbound 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe. The collision caused the Tahoe to slide off the roadway and roll after it hit a metal light pole, police said. The driver of the Tahoe, Jerome R. Payton Jr., was ejected. Police said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

Omaha Fire Department medics arrived at the scene and declared Payton dead.

The driver of the Nissan, Meghan Kinsey, 23, of Omaha, showed signs of alcohol impairment, police said. She was booked on suspicion of DUI/serious bodily injury, reckless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

The Nebraska State Patrol assisted with identifying Payton and with closing the freeway at Hamilton Street until 5:10 a.m., when the roadway was reopened, police said.
