A 47-year-old Omaha man died in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 680 in which his car was struck by an oncoming school bus.

Emergency responders performed CPR on Bradley G. Uecker, 47, but he died at a local hospital.

The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. on I-680 near 72nd Street. No children were on the bus and no one else was seriously injured.

Police provided this account of what happened:

Uecker was eastbound in the passing lane when he decided to pass the car in front of him. He pulled his 2006 Buick into the right-hand lane, passed the car and pulled back into the left-hand lane. In the process, he struck the front of the other car.

Both cars spun into the median, and the other car came to a stop there. Uecker’s car continued into the path of the westbound school bus, and the bus collided with the driver’s side of Uecker’s car. Debris from that collision struck a fourth vehicle.

The school bus driver was treated for minor injuries.
