The TD Ameritrade Park grounds crew has been busy with field resurfacing the past week, and they documented the transformation on Twitter.
The crew started with a little fun.
After eight seasons, Bush Turf — which also claims the playing field for the Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Chiefs — was hired to replace TD Ameritrade's sod.
8 Baseball seasons, 2 Concert series, 3 Football seasons (with 2 separate leagues!), Hockey, Marathons & 5k's - it survived it all!— TDAP Grounds Crew (@cws_groundscrew) August 13, 2018
But starting today, @BushTurf begins the process of replacing the playing surface here at good ol' @tdameritradeprk. Follow along with the process! pic.twitter.com/JtGFXxmkEN
Let the construction begin.
After one day the entire infield playing surface — and part of the outfield — was pulled.
The entire field was stripped by the second day.
1st pass done! @BushTurf crew taking a 2nd pass to get the last little bit of organic material off the top. Only going about an inch deep on 2nd pass but it makes a big difference! 2nd pic is side-by-side comparison. Sand looks much “cleaner” on the left side. pic.twitter.com/gbQGFFxb1c— TDAP Grounds Crew (@cws_groundscrew) August 14, 2018
If any of TD Ameritrade Park's College World Series champions were craving any nostalgic dirt, well, the grounds crew has plenty. And, hey, while you're here, you might as well check out our giant CWS database.
Think the massive rainfall hurt construction? Think again. The grounds crew was thankful.
OK, maybe it was too much rain.
And back to work they go.
And here comes the turf!
Day 8 coming to a close! @BushTurf about 1/2 done with sod install. Took a little longer around the infield because of all the edges & angles, but once they got to the outfield they were cookin’! Get one last good look at the beach, because tomorrow it’ll be gone! #surfandturf pic.twitter.com/GIhpeWvpLK— TDAP Grounds Crew (@cws_groundscrew) August 23, 2018
Stay tuned for the finished product.
