13th Street Bridge

The 13th Street Bridge between Farnam and Douglas Streets will close Thursday morning and stay closed until May 2020, city officials said.

Starting at 7 a.m. Thursday, a major downtown link will close for almost a year.

The 13th Street Bridge between Farnam and Douglas Streets will be closed, and that section of 13th Street won’t open until May 2020, the city’s Public Works Department said Tuesday. The closure is because of the reconstruction project underway in the Gene Leahy Mall.

Crews will remove the bridge, grade the ground below it to street level and then pour concrete to form the street, said Mike Gaughen of the city’s traffic engineering division. A bridge no longer will be needed, he said.
