A motorcyclist critically injured in a crash last week in Gretna has died.

Jared Parker, 36, of Omaha, died Tuesday, the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office said.

Parker was flown to Creighton University Medical Center on Thursday with head injuries and numerous fractures after a crash near U.S. Highway 6 and Bryan Street, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities said the crash happened when James Sedlacek, the driver of a 2008 Ford pickup truck, was leaving a parking lot to head north on Highway 6.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Parker laid down his southbound 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle in an attempt to avoid the pickup, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Sedlacek, 45, who lives south of Gretna, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, the Sheriff’s Office said. Parker was wearing a helmet.

Parker was the camp director at the Eastern Nebraska 4-H Center near Schramm State Recreation Area.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing. Once completed, the Sheriff’s Office said, the case will be referred to the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether to file any charges against Sedlacek.
