A 25-year-old Omaha man remained in critical condition Tuesday after he was injured when the boom truck lift he was working in touched a power line near 49th and Dodge Streets.

Alex Cooper, an employee of Ronco Construction, first was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center after the Monday incident. He then was transferred to the burn unit at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.

A witness told police that Cooper fell about four stories from the bucket of a boom truck after it made contact with a power line at 12:45 p.m. A police report said Cooper was being treated for burns and a head injury.

Cooper and a co-worker, Fred Maldonado, 31, of Omaha, were working at the Dundee Flats apartments being built at 4835 Dodge St., police said. Maldonado, who was on the roof of the apartments when the incident occurred, was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center for treatment of electrical shock, police said. A hospital spokeswoman said Maldonado was listed in fair condition Tuesday.

A message left with Ronco Construction seeking comment about the incident was not immediately returned.
