A 20 year-old Omaha man was hit by a train near 180th and Giles just before 1 a.m. this morning.

Officers responded to the area after being notified by Burlington Northern about the accident. They found the car empty, and a search near the area found nothing.

The Sarpy County Sheriff's department reached out to the owner of the 2002 Honda CRV, who said that his son, James P. Thompson, was driving the vehicle.

Law enforcement pinged Thompson's cell phone and found him walking near Scary Acres between 168th and 180th St.

Thompson was transported to UNMC for treatment of minor injuries.
