One person was injured and about 15 displaced because of an apartment house fire Sunday at 2606 Poppleton Ave.
A man believed to be in his 20s suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Creighton University Medical Center for treatment. Paramedics did not consider his condition life-threatening en route to the hospital.
The house contained three or four apartments, and at least five adults and 10 children had to find shelter elsewhere, said Battalion Chief Matt Carmichael of the Omaha Fire Department. The American Red Cross was called in to help.
The fire, reported at 11:28 a.m., started in the basement and spread through the walls to the first and second floors of the stucco woodframe structure, Carmichael said. The cause still was being investigated Sunday night but was not believed to be suspicious, he said.
An estimate on the fire’s cost was not immediately available.
