The Women’s Center for Advancement in Omaha will host a panel discussion on Monday to promote awareness of sexual assault.

The panel will address what sexual assault is, how people can report sexual assault, the best way to help a survivor, the hardships that survivors face and the impact of sexual assault on the Omaha community.

“Many times we talk about how agencies like the WCA can assist survivors of sexual assault, but we need to be talking about how all community members can support survivors and help them access important resources like the WCA,” said Elizabeth Power, a spokeswoman at the center.

The panel will feature a pastor from a local Lutheran church, a fraternity member from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a therapist from the WCA. Power said it is important to have panelists who represent important groups in the community because they are often the first to hear of an assault.

The free event will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center at UNO.
