Firefighters spent about a half-hour Wednesday morning battling a fire at a vacant house in South Omaha.

The fire near South 26th and J Streets was called in around 5:50 a.m. It was declared under control around 6:20 a.m.

Firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the one-story home as they arrived on the scene.

Because the home was vacant and the flames were heavy, firefighters attacked the fire from defensive positions through the home’s windows.

No injuries were reported.
