A Bellevue man died Tuesday morning while Bellevue police were at a home attempting to investigate a case.

Detectives arrived at a home near 22nd Avenue and Hancock Street about 9:35 a.m. to interview Louis Albertson, 62, about a case they were investigating, according to the Bellevue Police Department. They asked a woman at the front door of the home to speak with Albertson.

A short time later, the detectives heard what was determined to be a gunshot from inside the house, according to a press release. Additional officers responded at 9:38 a.m., and upon entering the home, detectives found Albertson with a gunshot wound. Albertson died at the scene.

The La Vista Police Department is conducting an investigation of the death with the assistance of the Douglas County crime lab, according to the release. According to state law, grand juries are called to investigate deaths of people who are in custody or being apprehended by law enforcement.
