Cass County Sheriff

A Bellevue man was flown to an Omaha hospital Tuesday after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and it crashed near Buccaneer Bay in Cass County.

Patrick A. O’Connor, 67, was taken by medical helicopter in critical condition to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy. A hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday that O’Connor had been upgraded to serious condition.

Cass County sheriff’s deputies determined that O’Connor was westbound on Bay Road on a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at 1:30 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle left the road, continued through a ditch and launched over Davy Jones Drive before crashing, according to the sheriff’s report.

Investigators determined that O’Connor was wearing a helmet, but it’s thought to have been knocked off because of the severity of the impact when the motorcycle hit the ground. O’Connor was thrown from the motorcycle.
