MASON CITY, Iowa — An April trial has been scheduled for a Mason City man accused of child endangerment that resulted in the death of a toddler.

Kenneth Adams, 29, has pleaded not guilty. His trial is scheduled to begin April 2.

Officers were sent to a Mason City home Oct. 27 to check on an unresponsive child.

Police say the child was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, where he died. The State Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide.

Police have not released the child's name, but a newspaper cited an obituary that said 19-month-old Owen James Adams died Oct. 27 at Mercy. His father was listed as Kenneth Adams of Mason City. — AP
