LINCOLN — A 26-year-old Mexican national has been sentenced to four to six years in prison for trying to sexually assault a 14-year-old girl.

Luis Sanchez Cruz was sentenced Friday in Lancaster County District Court.

He had pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree sexual assault in the June 20 incident.

Police said the girl told investigators that she and another 14-year-old girl had run away from a residential treatment facility and met Cruz and another man on a Lincoln street. The girls asked to spend the night at the men’s place. Police said Cruz later tried to have sex with the girl but stopped when she said no.

Prosecutors said Cruz will be deported when he is done serving his sentence. — AP
