A 19-year-old man was taken to an Omaha hospital with critical injuries Wednesday night after he was struck by the mirror of a pickup truck while riding a bicycle on Blair High Road.

Malik A. Abdessalam of Omaha was taken to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy at 9:45 p.m. A hospital spokeswoman said Abdessalam remained in critical condition Thursday, but by Friday morning, hospital records showed that he had been released.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred on Blair High Road near McKinley Street. Abdessalam was northbound on Blair High Road when he was hit by the passenger-side mirror of a northbound 2007 Ford F-150 driven by Mark Sundermeier, 59, of Blair.

The blow knocked Abdessalam, who was wearing a helmet, off the bicycle and onto the shoulder of the road. The incident is under investigation.
