Several members of the Gist and Guest families have birthdays on March 20. This year, John Wesley Olson, below, joined the club. “When I woke up with contractions at 2 a.m. on March 20, I was shocked but not surprised that he picked that day to arrive,” Julie Olson said.

March 20 is far from an ordinary day for the Gist and Guest families.

Coincidentally — and very strangely — many family members share a birthday on that date.

And the newest member of the club was just born.

It started with Judy Gist, the family matriarch, who still lives in Omaha.

Her son, William Gist V, was born on March 20. Gist also had two daughters, Jane and Julie (not born on March 20).

Jane met her future husband, Scott Guest, on March 20, 2002. March 20 also is Guest’s birth date.

Fast forward about a decade, and Jane Guest delivered a son on March 20. Her predicted due date was March 7.

And just last Wednesday, Julie Olson gave birth to a son, a few days before her due date.

John Wesley Olson was born in Omaha at 7:42 a.m. March 20, weighing 6 pounds and 5 ounces.

“When I woke up with contractions at 2 a.m. on March 20, I was shocked but not surprised that he picked that day to arrive,” Julie Olson said in an email. “We were excited and amused by the coincidence and continuing the tradition of boys on March 20th.”

Oh, also, another cousin has a March 20 birthday.

Got all that?

Scott Guest said it was great to add another person to the March 20 club.

“They’ve joked around how the newborn’s gonna steal the show for the date,” Guest said. “We didn’t really know if it would happen or not, and sure enough, it happened. The baby came quick.”

The families try to get together each year to celebrate all the milestones.

“It’s really fun,” Guest said. “It’s very unique to have all birthdays on the same day and be able to celebrate as a family and have a special day for all of us.”
