For her 13th birthday, Lilly Maddox of Council Bluffs is asking for shoes — not for herself, but for homeless and near-homeless kids.

Maddox has undertaken a shoe drive, and her family is pitching in to make it successful.

The family is hosting a barbecue, bonfire and dance party Friday at their Bluffs home for anyone who brings a new pair of shoes that will fit someone ages 0 to 18.

The shoes will be given to New Visions/Mohm’s Place & Children Square U.S.A. in Council Bluffs, a nonprofit that helps the homeless and near-homeless.

The party is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 1002 E. Washington Ave. in the Bluffs.

This is not the first time Lilly has turned her birthday into a benefit. Last year, she set a goal of collecting 135 pairs of shoes and exceeded it by three.

This year, her goal is 150 pairs of shoes.
