The Elkhorn River, southwest of Elk City.

Some good news for people boating, tubing and fishing: Two Elkhorn River access sites that have been closed since the fall

reopened on Friday.

The Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District announced that the Graske Crossing and West Maple Road river access sites opened at noon Friday.

Both have been closed since October 2018 because of high river levels exacerbated by flooding this spring.

The Elkhorn Crossing river access site remains closed.

The Platte River Landing boat ramp and playground also are open.

The Papio NRD reminds swimmers and boaters to practice safety and wear life jackets. Officials warned people earlier this spring to be cautious around rivers that were running faster and deeper after flooding.
