A 33-year-old Omaha woman died and five others were injured Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash just north of Glenwood, Iowa in Mills County.

Iris Gandara, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an Iowa State Patrol report. The collision occurred just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of 221st Street and Barrus Road.

The injured are Heather A. Johnson, 51, of Omaha; Mariana Nieto, 27, of Omaha; Marvin J. Elmquist, 50, of Sarasota, Florida; Austin Ling, 10, of Glenwood; and Adam Ling, 6, of Glenwood. Johnson was taken by helicopter to the Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition.

Investigators determined that Johnson was driving a 2017 Honda Accord west on Barrus Road when the vehicle went through a stop sign. The Honda was broadsided by a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Ronnie R. Ling, 34, of Glenwood. Both vehicles came to a stop in a field west of the roadway.

Nieto was taken by ambulance to Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Elmquist and the two Ling children were taken by ambulance to the Nebraska Medical Center. The children were treated and released, and Elmquist remains hospitalized in serious condition.
